Have you ever thought about making your very own outdoor cinema? We've come up with a simple guide of everything you'll need to think about when it comes to setting up a perfect garden cinema. The only thing we can't do? Choose the film!
You will need:
A projector
A screen or blank wall
Good speakers
Something to play a film on (laptop or DVD player)
A good film
Seating
Seating is an essential part of a happy movie experience; there's nothing worse than being sat on an uncomfortable chair at the cinema, wriggling to get comfy and becoming more distracted as time goes on. We are proud to handcraft beautiful wooden garden furniture including wooden garden chairs, seats and benches. Our Torrington Table Garden Seat is the perfect movie watching seat, as it features a curved seat for added comfort, as well as side tables – perfect for holding movie snacks! If you need to add extra seating for kids, you might want to consider something like outdoor beanbags or cushions.
It's important to make sure that your guests are both comfortable and cosy; one of the other things to consider is ensuring you are keeping your guess warm enough. It's a good idea to have a stash of blankets to pass out, or alternatively have everyone bring their own.
Lighting
Lighting during a movie is incredibly important, however you certainly don't want to overdo it with the lighting and distract away from the movie. For an enchanting atmosphere we recommend using a selection of tea lights, candles, lanterns and fairy lights. The ideal balance of lighting would ensure that you can see where you are walking in the garden, but not so bright as to be distracting.
Movie Snacks
The great thing about hosting a movie night is that you can keep the food and drink simple, and spend more time enjoying yourself. Movie snacks need to be something you can easily snack on during the film such as popcorn, sweets, chocolate, crisps or pretzels. If you did want to cook up something more elaborate, you could consider having an interval, or a cocktail and canapé hour after the movie.
