The London Garden Bridge

So you may have heard in the news that a proposal has been made for a garden bridge to be placed over the River Thames in London.

It's exciting news for us, as we love garden bridges!

So what is the Garden Bridge in London all about?

According to the Garden Bridge Trust, London's Garden Bridge will be an interactive and relaxed public garden and pedestrian crossing to be enjoyed by both Londoners and tourists alike. Spanning from the South Bank to Temple Station between the Blackfriars and Waterloo bridges, it will provide a fantastic route between North and South London featuring plants, trees, woodland and meandering walkways for people's enjoyment.

London's newest green space will have benefits for those looking to avoid busy roads and reduce their pedestrian journey times. Also, it will create jobs in operations and construction on top of educational and volunteering opportunities.

Backed by the Mayor of London's Office, the Garden Bridge Trust - a UK registered charity - is currently fundraising to deliver the Garden Bridge and its ongoing maintenance through individual donations, charitable foundations and companies along with the pledged £30m of public funds from the Treasury and Transport for London.

The charity needs to raise £175m to develop the bridge and to date, the figure has reached £120m. This seems well on its way for the London Garden Bridge to be open to the public in summer 2018.

Since we're so interested in the London Garden Bridge, we decided it would be fun to think of some ways that our furniture could benefit the project.

Garden Bridges

We'd love to see garden bridges on the Garden Bridge!

We think that visitors would enjoy viewing the 2500sq m dedicated areas for plants from above on our wooden garden bridges. Promoted on the Alan Titchmarsh show, our products are lovingly crafted by hand at our British stores in Lincolnshire. We think they'd be great focal points on the London Garden Bridge. Our hand crafted items would add to the visitor experience when they realise the quirk of standing on a garden bridge on a bigger garden bridge!

Swing Hammocks

Walking through the meandering walkways would surely be tiring work for your feet. We reckon that our wooden swing hammocks might just be the perfect tonic for you to rest up and observe the beautiful trees and plants that surround you. Perhaps it would be a perfect place to have a quiet lunch as you wind down from a busy morning in the office. But don't fall asleep, you might find yourself locked in when night falls!

Garden Seats

Our hand crafted two seater garden seats might be just the thing for loving couples, as they walk hand in hand across the London Garden Bridge. These garden seats could be strategically placed in private areas offering the chance for lovers to smooch in gorgeous surroundings. Or if you're looking for the perfect quiet place to pop the question in a green space in the centre of London, our garden seats might offer the best environment.

Bird Tables

What garden is complete without the singsong of graceful birds? With sparrows, tits and finches amongsty the songbird population in London, the Garden Bridge might just be the right place to get away from those pesky pigeons and annoying seagulls.

We could help by installing bird tables for visitors to feed the songbirds and observe them from afar. Let's bring wildlife back to London.

Picnic Benches and Tables

The London Garden Bridge would be a great place to have a picnic if we had our wooden picnic tables installed. Eating al fresco, friends and family could gather round to take part in a unique dining experience over the River Thames.

Rose Arches

As London is the capital of England, we would love to see the English Rose climbing some of our rose arches on the London Garden Bridge. But we also think the Scottish thistle, the Welsh Daffodil and the Northern Irish Shamrock should feature to signify the Union that binds our countries.

Wouldn't it look pretty if we mingled all the national flowers together on the rose arches?
